Major ion concentrations were analysed for twenty eight groundwater samples collected from limestone aquifers in the Sunan coal-mining area, Anhui Province, China. The conventional graphical and multivariate statistical approach was used to discuss the geochemical characteristics, ion source and hydrogeochemical process of groundwater, and the applicability of groundwater is also evaluated based on a series of index. The results showed that the groundwater samples are mainly featured alkaline in nature, with the high value of TDS ranges from 789 to 2753 mg/L. The concentration of Cl- is low compared to the concentrations of SO42- and HCO3-, otherwise, the cations are mainly composed of Na+ and Ca2+. Therefore, the hydrochemical type of groundwater samples is mainly divided into Ca-SO4 and Na-SO4 types. The dissolution of gypsum, weathering of dolomite and calcite are the main hydro-geochemical processes, which contribute most ions to groundwater. The groundwater samples could not meet the demand of drinking water, as compared to the standards of WHO. However, all the groundwater samples are suitable for irrigation, with a better calculated index. Keywords

Major ion concentrations were analysed for 29 groundwater samples collected from diverse aquifers in Wolonghu mining, northern Anhui province, China. The evaluation of groundwater quality and controlling factors analysis were obtained by the methods such as multivariate statistical approach and conventional graphical and calculation of a series of index. The results showed that the groundwater samples are alkaline in nature, with the high value of TDS ranging from 686 to 3927 mg/L, the concentrations of Cl- are low for all groundwater samples, whereas the contents of SO4 2- and HCO3- are high. The groundwater samples of QA and CA could be used for drinking and irrigation, whereas the groundwater of LA could not be used for irrigation for the high TDS concentration. The groundwater in the area is mainly controlled by silicate weathering, the evaporative dissolution and carbonate dissolution. Sulphate dissolution also played an important role in the groundwater quality. Keywords

Major ion concentrations were analysed for twenty eight groundwater samples collected from coal bearing aquifer in Sunan coal-mining area, Anhui Province, China. The conventional graphical and multivariate statistical approaches were used to discuss the geochemical characteristics, ions source and hydrogeochemical process of groundwater. Moreover, the applicability of groundwater is also evaluated based on a series of indexes. The results showed that the groundwater samples are mainly featured alkaline in nature, with the high value of TDS ranging from 860 to 5431 mg/L. The concentration of Cl- is low comparing with the concentrations of SO42- and HCO3-, otherwise, the cations are mainly composed of Na++K+ and Ca2+. Therefore, the hydrochemical types of groundwater samples are mainly divided into Na-HCO3 and Na-SO4 types. The dissolution of dolomite, evaporation and weathering of feldspar are the main hydro-geochemical processes, which contribute most ions to groundwater. The groundwater samples could not meet the demand of drinking water, comparing with the standard of WHO. Especially, all the groundwater samples are sealed for irrigation, with the higher values of RSC and SAR.Keywords

Major ions, trace elements and isotope concentrations were measured in water samples collected from Ordovician limestone aquifer and surface rivers in Suxian coal mine district, China. The geochemical characteristics and hydrochemistry process were discussed, and serious results could be obtained: Groundwater samples from Ordovician limestone aquifer were mainly the Na-SO4 and Na-HCO3 types, the similar feature with the river water samples suggesting a certain relationship may be existed between groundwater and surface river water. The total REE concentrations (ΣREE) in groundwater samples varied from 0.0263 to 0.1348 mg/L, with an average value of 0.063 mg/L. The oxidative conditions are the mainly factors deduced the negative Ce anomalies and positive Eu anomalies. The groundwater samples, recharged by the precipitation and surface water, have lower concentrations of δ18O and δD comparing with river water, reflected the river water affected by the evaporation clearly, with the heavy isotope enrichment. The negative correlation between δ18O and TDS and Ca2+ indicated that the dissolution of limestone could be the factor influencing the oxygen isotope characters. Groundwater in Ordovician limestone is runoff from both sides to intermediate, with the Taoyuan coal mine as the subsidence center in study area, evidenced by the contour diagrams of TDS and δ18O. The hydrochemistry field and runoff field of groundwater in study area are mainly controlled by the tectonic field, especially the Sunan syncline. Keywords
